The master bedroom

The kitchen is finished, apart from installation of appliances and associated making good, so I've moved onto the master bedroom.

It looks worse than it is, because it's vast and empty. The only real problem is that it's not my choice of colour, and this problem is being (glacially slowly) taken care of.

Here's what I'm up against

So I decided I would use this new blog for some pictures of my lovely flat, before and after. We begin with before photos (obviously) of the kitchen.

Notice the wallpaper that looks like it was left over from Christmas. It wasn't partially ripped off when I moved in - I hated it so much I tried to tear it down with my bare hands as soon as I had the keys. Notice also the unappealing yellow on the rest of the walls. (The fact that it's a dumping ground for decorating supplies doesn't help, of course, but they have to be somewhere.)

The hideous wallpaper has gone, and the yellow has disappeared under my choice: a fresh green (Crown's "Soft Lime"). The wood- and metalwork is in the process of turning white.

Once the painting's done, I just need to clean the floor and worktops, find some attractive curtains and a kitchen table, and accessorise a la Ann Maurice to make it beautiful.

Just what I need - another blog

I have a blog called The Iron-On Line, where I post about my life, my attempts to decorate my council flat, and my adorable baby daughter.

I have a blog called creativeiron, where I post recipes, short stories, novel chapters and the occasional piece of what might loosely be called artwork.

I co-blog at a blog called Alas, A Blog, where I add my working-class, genderqueer, UK-based perspective on a whole bunch of feminist political topics.

I guest blog from time to time at a blog called jay sennett jaywalks, whenever I feel I have something to add to Jay's own thoughts on what constitutes identity.

And now I have this blog here. I have no idea what I'll do with it, but I'm sure I'll think of something.
